Steven Spielberg to release new UFO movie in 2026

The “Close Encounters” creator is about to jump into the topic of Alien Visitors again. The secretive New project has a release date of May 15, 2026. Both the title and the plot are as yet unknown.

We do know that Steven Spielberg is very interested in UFOs and has been following the latest news developments. What might this project look like? I’m hoping for a fictionalization of recent press headlines about claims of a top secret U.S. Government flying saucer crash recovery program and non-human intelligence. (If you are not familiar with these press reports, just Google the names David Grusch and Karl Nell.) I am just indulging in wild speculation, of course. The movie could come at the subject from any unexpected angle.

Whatever the case, Universal is already describing this new movie as an “event film.”

The Oscar-winning director is making a UFO film based on his own idea, that's according to a report from Variety Magazine. He is reportedly teaming up again with screenwriter David Koepp, known for their collaboration on the 1993 Jurassic Park block buster.

As yet, no title has been announced for the upcoming film and details remain sketchy, but the reunion between the writer and director is undoubtedly an exciting prospect.

That unrelated Frank Sinatra project mentioned in the Variety article also sounds interesting. Don’t know about DiCaprio playing old blue eyes, but I suppose I could be convinced.

Don’t know why Spielberg is so interested in flying saucers, but a lot of people are, myself included. Mostly, I guess, it’s because of the high level people (seemingly sane) who keep coming forward with claims of knowledge about secret retrieval programs. With ZERO hard evidence given, I might add.

Obviously, stuff like the above is perfect grist for the screenwriting mill. Though Spielberg might be (and probably is) going in a completely different direction.

As teenager first Indiana an for sure Collab Spilberg Lucas on SW amazing. But honestly all other films from Spielberg boring and looking all same. Pretty sure UFO will other comics movie.

No obvious aliens, flying saucers, or nuts & bolts hardware. I’ve read where Disclosure Day is actually based on an event that happened in 2011 (in the movie they use flip phones) with gov’t scientists & the military making a breakthrough (at the cost of several lives now) while working on what is known as Biological Assist. Most migratory birds & some larger mammals (elk & deer) use what is known as tunneling & quantum entanglement, & Biological Assist can & has given human subjects some of those abilities. The use of the red Cardinal in the movie is probably meant to bring in a religious aspect to Disclosure.

You can hear a lot on quantum entanglement centered around discussions of the paranormal, demons, ghosts, etc & how aliens & the paranormal are linked together. My guess is that Disclosure Day is really about humans obtaining at least artificially a next level of consciousness & what we have learned, & what that will mean for life.

On another thought officially the world’s population still stands at 7 billion plus. In 2011 mathematicians unofficially added up the populations of the worlds individual countries & came up with a figure of over 8 billion back then. Could they have been working on a theory of aliens living among us then?

Steven's comment about the UFO sightings possibly being "us" coming back from the future to document what happened at the end of the 20th C into the 21st just illustrates his skill as a story teller. Wow.

Recognized talent that he undoubtedly is, Steven Spielberg nevertheless isn't any sort of directorial savant.
His Ryan was more spectacular posture than sagacious introspective anywhere near the elegiac heights John Huston's 1945 Battle of San Pietro or horrific chronicle, Testament scaled. Spielberg remains wunderkid chalkboard strut; bankable, but essentially void truth. Whatever coming down the pike is sure to prove something less than a full deck.

Saw Disclosure Day yesterday evening. Action packed and very exciting. A lot of the movie is well done chase sequences. The acting is first rate, especially the lead woman who plays the TV weather girl. As far as the plot goes, it mixes together all the UFO conspiracy theories that you’ve ever heard. And a lot of psychic stuff too. This movie was definitely written for those who want to believe. And not in a bad way. My favorite part is the last 10 minutes or so, when Spielberg treats us to brief glimpses of all those secret government UFO videos that we have been told really exist. Roswell, Navy footage of a giant ufo rising out of the sea, etc. Just brief glimpses, but it makes you wish this was the quality stuff the government is releasing now. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. Well done. There are some holes in the plot. The movie has its “over the top” moments. I’d give it an 8 out of 10. Basically a fun summer movie.

the side. Not that I am against entertaining cinema but a bandwagon jump on production is cinematic carnival cotton candy cone pretense for the accepting uncritical public.

Unfortunately Disclosure Day is not a good movie. Well directed but overlong and weak script.
