I got that yesterday, for the first time ever.

Mine has done this three or four times in the last few days.

Same here random it seems

I'm also getting this:

Does this forum now have a crawling AI censor looking for patterns of letters & words like YouTube & other parts of the internet do? I have noticed on a couple of posts of another OP that some letters had been removed from words & replaced with stars or something. I really didn’t give it much attention thinking the OP was being funny. Now it has happened to some of my posts. I used the word “butter” as in peanut butter, butterscotch, candy, etc. In my posts the first four letters of the word butter have been removed & replaced with stars. Now my word appears like this ****er. Did a bartender do that? And by my post count I have about six posts that have been deleted. I have only figured out what two of the posts were, neither of which broke any rules that I know about. Seriously? What is this forum coming to?

It just now did it automatically as I posted above. That answers some things.

It was the same for me. At first, I thought I had made a mistake, but when I tried to edit it, I saw that it was fine anyway. When I saved it, the asterisks reappeared.
The word was button-down -> b u t t o n-d o w n

That is something that I experienced when highlighting the bre-astpocket on a shirt. Spell it without the hyphen and it immediately gives the impression that it might be censored with asterisks due to the word being a possible link to some dubious website.

It seems like a very blunt instrument. It appears to be censoring such innocuous terms as analogy, buttonhole, cocktail, double breasted,
dickies etc.

In all cases the censored versions make it look like you have written something completely filthy.

****e passes the nannybot I believe (or did so in a post last week)

It is rather frustrating to read innocuous posts and to have to figure out the ****

I've encountered this on other forums.

I can understand the broader point of trying to censor offensive language for whatever reason, but when it's intrusive enough that it leaves innocuous posts incomprehensible, it can become a problem.

In previous places, people would just circumvent the swear filter with creative spelling and threads filled up with nerdy swears.

Unsurprising.

Though we've always asked that the Lounge remain 'family friendly' (mostly successfully), This crude autocensor has just appeared, by default, and without warning, as part of the latest forum software updates. Management are looking into it.
Thanks for the update Edward, that's helpful.

It is impacting searches too., You can't search any of the "banned" terms.

My concern right now is if this change gets rolled back, if all the damage done will remain. I'm not confident the censored terms will turn uncensored, it might just affect anything written going forward.
