If you add a piece of corduroy on top of the collar, it’s good to go. It’s commonly done in Ralphs-Pugh jacket (see below). Alternatively, you can also wear it with a mouton collar.

Exactly. However, I can understand everyone's point about how can the collar be a big project if the entire collar needed to be redone. Back in the day, Corduroy was applied to Cals and others high quality jacket. Remember, those jackets were essential tools for many people.

I have added suede to some of my dual sports outfits I purchased from BMW and Rev'it two piece suit jacket.

Not an expensive jacket but I had one in the 80’s and I got this one on eBay for $50.. I just had to have it! I hand washed it in the sink and hung it outside to dry and I love this cheap jacket. My members only jacket takes me back to when I was in my early twenties..Lol

I do not remember ever buying from buyee. Can someone please advise me of the additional charges for this $600 jacket?
Will it be a tariff added?
Would I have to pay taxes here in California or Japan?

Any important fact will be much appreciated.
The jacket is for sale on mercari.jp, buyee is just the default 3rd party proxy they use, but you can use others as well.

Afaik, buyee automatically adds 20% to your total when shipping to US, they also pay japanese sales tax 10% because it sells within japan before shipping it off to you internationally, but I believe the price stated on mercari already includes sales tax and domestic shipping.

Currently on From Japan there’s a 10% off code for mercari, and they don’t charge duty/tartifs, which iirc is currently 15% to the US, so you could potentially have it around $700 all in if you go that route and use the code.

Sadly there’s still no new discount code for international shipping and the previous 20% off one just expired end of September.

Oh and btw that mercari discount expires October 5th at midnight jst.

Lastly, you could also use the discount on FJ and ask for another 10% price negotiation and get it a bit cheaper if the seller agrees.

Thanks for getting back. I truly appreciate the important facts you pointed out for the completion of the jacket. Too bad the shipping coupon expired. I do like this jacket, but I do not think it is worth the price to me. I can overlook some details, but the problem with this jacket in my view is the back and the front zipper. I still think the "Duke" still the best reproduction of the Original Californian.

Not entirely correct. Sales tax only collected by business if sold to consumer in the course of business in Japan. Sales tax does no apply to individual consumer selling their unwanted items say on Mercari or Yahoo Auction. If you see a sales tax included in the price, you are buying from a business.
