Pretty neat older Stetson

Older Stetson I recently acquired. I’m guessing late 40’s 50’s? 3 inch brim and 6” crown when open. I think Waymire closed it’s doors in the late 40’s. In my eagerness to learn more, I went to *carefully* lift the sweatband and it immediately started to crack so I stopped as it was in almost perfect condition before that.. will conditioner make a difference or is it past that point? I wanted to add some 2mm foam to snug it up a bit, and of course see what other tags were under there. Either way pretty neat hat. I’ve not seen one that didn’t have the x designation stamped at the front of the band and only in the liner.

Nice 3X. Unfortunately, in my experience once the sweatband starts to crack like that there is no amount of leather conditioner that is going to bring it back to new condition. The sweatband isn't marked 3X in the front like others you might have seen, this one has the 3X marking on the side of the sweatband. Hard to see in the photos but it appears to have an embroidered Last Drop liner without the plastic liner tip ? Maybe the "onion skin" liner tip or possibly none at all. Either way, nice hat.

Thanks for the reply, that was my fear.. you are correct the liner has no plastic or onion skin.. the hat has some stains but the liner and sweatband are (were) in what looked to be unworn condition

I would try & cut a piece of cloth fabric tape & slide it in behind the split in the sweat to help support it from tearing further. Place it behind & over the tear.
I wanted to add some 2mm foam
And skip the foam. Just live with the fit.

I think Waymire closed it’s doors in the late 40’s.

It went until the late 1960s anyway.

Love the hat — congrats!
