Not that anyone else would want one! I think LBJ was a train wreck of a president, and a bad guy. But he was a great character. And I think very little of Nixon, but I think he'd be the most interesting 20th c President to have as a dinner guest. My home has a few Nixon, LBJ, or Lady Bird ashtrays on the tables. Kennedy was too much a celebrity, and not remotely interesting IMHO, so no Kennedy paraphernalia in this house. And I can't imagine having any Presidential stuff post-Nixon. But an LBJ ashtray in the shape of a hat? Sold!

Anyone know what's rubbed out below the Presidential seal?

Never seen an example with anything other than the seal and signature on one of these. Looks as if someone tried to scratch something out.

I think it says “i’m not a crook either”.
I could be wrong.

Been watching this ceramic Newsboy cap ashtray made to look like denim.

Nice. I'd be tempted to stick a cork on top of the button in the middle, then it'd be great for the pipe.

Interesting seeing ashtrays in novelty designs - something that has died out, at least in the mainstream over here as cigarette smoking dies out at a fair rate. There are now kids alive who can legally smoke here who were born after the smoking ban in public buildings, pubs, et cetera. I see more shops here in East London selling vapes now than I do cigarettes. It's interesting how promotional artefacts have changed like that over time, reflecting changes in habits generally. I remember in the 70s it wasn't unusual for the pre-war car club my dad was in to give out fancy lighters as finishers' awards at meetings. That died out a few years ahead of the tobacco sponsors leaving packets of ten as after-lunch smokes. I think in turn those phased out in the mid 90s.

Looks like it might have been a company name / logo - maybe a sponsor / donor at whatever event these were given out?

It is intriguing. I keep a round tin with cork ******* & lid outside on the porch.

The cigar craze has brought back the interest in ashtrays & smoking tools, advertising, etc.

Interesting seeing cigars make a bit of a comeback. I can see then being an attractive option for the occasional smoker who doesn't want to invest in a pipe. I moved from cigars to the pipe because I like the fuss and the fiddling, but vive la difference. Interesting that neither have wholly gained the stigma of cigarette smoking (cigars have Andrew Tate, but then Stalin was a pipesmoker, wasn't he?), I suppose because, whatever the science of it, I've never known anyone to end up dependent on the pipe or cigars in the way a lot of folks used to have a forty a day cigarette habit. When the doctor asks me about it, I'm always open that I'm an occasional pipe smoker (very occasional.... I've lit up maybe twice in the last year, usually at specific events). They obviously can't approve, but they've subtly indicated that at that rate while it won't do me any good, actual harm is notional...
