Picked up a nice old walnut cane at an estate sale locally a while back. I finally got around to smoothing the octagonal sides and getting some tung oil on it. ( its old and has some blemishes, but I think it looks good. Just finished sewing on a black leather handle and shaft grip cover like I did on my main anti gravity stick last year. Just need to do a bit of leather shrinking to get rid of a couple wrinkles ( its difficult to sew smooth around a curve) Guess Ive now got a casual AND a more formal walking cane

I have extreme OCD when it comes to scratches on canes. They never look good to me. I see some aged wooden canes which look great and fit the character of the person but that's not me. Lately been getting into the Cold Steel propylene canes. I love the fact they are durable and alll heck and you can clean them in the shower with soap. Has been a total game changer for me. In the past I purchased really nice wooden canes then it falls a few times on the ground and it looks like ****. I give up finally.

Kudos to you for making it work towards your benefit. Would love to see the type of outfit you would pair it with.

Canes are my daily anti gravity accessories, not just a fashion item.... medical issues a few years back kind of removed lots of my balance and stability. I start every morning at the gym, so muscle tone is fine, I just need a cane to keep me upright and avoid gravity storms. They all look fine with wool, leather or nylon ( and hats) for that matter. Im retired and tend to stay nice and casual.

Oh, I'm the other guy. The guy who buys a brand new pair of boots, and the first thing I do after I leave the store is go out and kick the curb a few times to scuff 'em up. There. Problem solved. I no longer have to worry about whether or not I'm going to scuff 'em up, 'cause it's already been done. Not that I abuse my canes or deliberately scuff and scratch them up, but if they fall and hit the ground/floor, I don't worry about it. That said, I do have one or two canes that I try to keep in good order so I can use them as "dress" canes.

That is the way you are supposed to do it. Have a few beaters for daily use then the dress/going out canes. I recently purchased THE going out dress cane but it is currently way too cold to be using a metal cane in NYC. I've had to change a lot about my cane usage since moving back to NYC . The weather doesn't often permit the usage of wooden canes due to extreme weather conditions. Wood doesn't do well her at all minus the very few warm weather months that we have...often marred by rain ;)

I've got a Cold Steel walking stick. Effective, stout, does what is expected of it and is about what you should expect of a piece of aluminum pipe with a handle on it. It's easy for me to leave that one at home.

I also have one of the early release Black Swift carbon sticks with a wooden ball at the top for a handle. That is a very easy stick to use. Super light and an elegant solution by any standard. Several think of it as a weapon and that stick does make a loud and fearsome noise while slicing through the air but if you're in a situation where you have to save your tail you've probably made more critical errors than just relying on a stick that day. Damn sure looks the part though and the sound of that bad boy singing through the air might cause a little pee to come out of most on the receiving end. Definitely not all though.

Purchased a blackswift. Maybe too light and thin for me but for the price it looks interesting thank you. I also like night watchman hooked self-defense cane made a fiberglass and thicker than the black swift cane. Something you should look into. The website that sells them is bud K.

The night watchmen stick with a handmade silicone sheath I made out of grip tape for TSA purposes. You just slip it on when you go to the airport and then slip it off when you get to where you are going.
