Yes, very sad. To me, she was always a celebrity I could trust. She lived her life on her terms and without all the drama and politics of the "look at me, do what I do,, I'm somebody" crowd. Say hello to Allen for us, Betty. Rest in piece.

Director Peter Bogdanovich has died at the age of 82. His daughter Antonia Bogdanovich told The Hollywood Reporter that Bogdanovich died shortly after midnight (January 6th) of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles.

I rewatched "The Last Picture Show" recently. It was a great movie. Loved it when it first came out and it really did stand the test of time.

Actor/Producer Dwayne Hickman, arguably known best as TV's Dobie Gillis, died today in Los Angeles, California at the age of 87. A spokesman for his family said the cause of death was complications of Parkinson's disease.

Standup comic and actor Bob Saget was found unresponsive in his Florida hotel room earlier today. According to the New York Times, "The cause of death was not known, but the [Orange County] Sheriff's office said there were no signs of foul play or drug use."

Two years ago, my brother, much older half brother, and I were hottubbing one day, and he mentioned the show he and our older brother used to watch back in the day. He could remember one character, a beatnik, and another, clean cut, chasing girls. I said "you mean Maynard Krebs and Dobie Gillis"? and he almost jumped out of the tub!

I had only ever read about the show, mainly whenever Bob Denver (Gilligan) was the subject. He was very nostalgic.

So for that Christmas (2019) I found and bought for him the entire "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" series on DVD. I have seen several episodes from the first season (1959), and learned more about Tuesday Weld, that Warren Beattie was on the show for a bit, and that Bob Denver, on being conscripted for national service, was replaced by Michael J. Pollard. When Denver returned after a brief absence, being discharged for flat feet or something, Pollard was let go but, having been shrewd enough to get a "play or pay" clause, was paid out for a whole season, having only appeared some episodes.

Sounds like Dwayne Hickman had a good innings as they say in cricket!
