What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Aight, thanks a lot, everyone. Well, y'all basically tellin' me the jacket's great if I plan on layering which to me translates as freaking too big! Nah, I'm kidding, I know what you mean. I'm getting really tired of that "perfect" fit, which I've landed a couple of dozen times in the past, only to sell the jacket afterwards and I really just wanna stick with something that's good enough - and this LW is. I still love wearing it and looking at it so I guess it'll stay for a while now. Thanks again, I really appreciate it you took a moment to help me out!

I plan on getting back on a bike this summer and by the time I'll need the jacket again, I think I'll be grateful that it fits a bit large. Always works better for me on a motorcycle, especially once it gets colder.

@Tom71 , that I gotta remember and keep in mind. Thanks, man!

I think that interesting back creasing into triangular shape like that is only possible if the back is a bit roomy, and after the side gets softer and follow your waistline better then it will look a lot less boxy, giving it a chance is the right decision man

That's the biggest doubt I have about the jacket, since it's still really solid, I don't have a clue what it'll look like once the hide truly softens up, provided that'll even happen. But it's overall okay to wear and just hard not to love such an amazing jacket.

Hey, what's happening with the white jacket you're having made now??

your back and sleeve looks pretty broken in from the photos there

my jacket is sitting around doing nothing throughout the long 2 weeks muslim holiday in my country, just because the guy who usually install the hardware took a holiday early, and nobody there dared to install those damn twist locks, probably the sitting over the mannequin there perhaps a little darker by now. still another 6 days before they're back on business

Sorry for the typical abysmal pics...just received this circa 2012 pre-Thurston bro’s/ Insurrection vintage Aero 30’s HB. It literally came out of a time capsule. No wear or sleeve creases. No nicks in the CXL. It’s a brand new old stock jacket with Insurrection specs. OD Canvas pocket bags, corduroy hem, throat latch...thankfully the sellers 20.5” p2p proved to be 23.25”. It’s tight but doable. By the time it’s cold enough to wear it I’m hoping I can recoup my pre-covid gain loss and pass this along.

Thanks! I was a bit apprehensive about whether the crosszip style could work for me but the investment to find out was minimal. Chalk this up to an eBay steal, with a special thanks to @ton312 for providing some encouragement to pull the trigger.
It would’ve been a crime for you not to own this. Bates is the best. There I said it. And it’s true.

Do you wear all button cuffs unbuttoned giving them a wing effect?
Yes I usually do leave them open. These in particular will never be closed. I’d have to do/undo them every time I put it on or took it off. The sleeves are quite trim and just like the CR I had from this era the cuff opening is very small. I prefer the standard cuff TBH.

I'm also in favour of leaving button cuffs open - I think that they've only ever been buttoned about ten times on my Highwayman in the decade I've owned it. The same is true on the goat 50s HB and the Maxwell (usually- for some reason I occasionally button the cuffs on longer jackets, but only in torrential rain would I button the cuffs on shorter ones). As I don't consider leather jackets to be 'smart' wear, I don't think they look quite right (and are less comfortable) with cuffs done up. Weirdly, 'strap' cuffs (August-type cuffs) I'd always fasten. There is, I suppose, no logic to it...

If these were snap button cuffs I might be more likely to close them but truthfully the wrist circumference at the base of the cuff is the tightest point, so fastening the cuff doesn’t do anything, aside from changing the look. But yeah all the button cuffs I’ve had were only buttoned once, when it shipped from Aero, and then undone and never again by me.

Ha! Snap cuffs I don't like undone, either. There's definitely a complex at work with buttons. Not buckles, not snaps, not double cuffs. But button cuffs on leather jackets. Always and only.

Just don't try to undo anyone else's.

On my Aero Grizzly I had button cuffs that were pretty narrow and I struggled to get my hands in and out. The cuffs were also backed up with leather so where they overlapped it was almost 1cm of CXL. Good luck softening that up.

On my Hooch Hauler instead there is almost no taper whatsoever from elbow to wrist and I could fit two hands in one cuff. Something in the middle would be nice.
