The question is too vague. Best for what? Best hide? Best pattern? Best for riding? Best quality? Best repro? Best weight? Best zipper configuration? Best length? Best collar configuration? Best fitting for larger framed men? Etc, etc.

I have owned many cafe racers and I can't answer this except by contextualizing the answer to an attribute/s. I like light leather with no side pockets so a 1960's Brooks is my favourite. But it isn't the best. It also isn't from 2018 however I am not sure I like the repros as much as the originals.

Of patterns made today I think I prefer the Vanson Comet with tweeks by Thruston Bros - extra 2 inches of length. But I would get it in mid-weight leather. Is it the best? I like it the best.

I have a horsehide Schott café racer AND a Vanson Comet in steer. Love them both for the same and/or different reasons !

Both are "new" as I bought the Schott brand new in 2016 and the Comet in 2017 , so both could be "2018" !
