Lee's favorite horse was the Appaloosa pictured he named Traveller. Traveller is now buried on the campus of Washington & Lee University just a short distance from the Lee family vault. When I was growing up my grandfather's favorite horse was a big speckled Appaloosa he named Traveller in honor of Lee & his Appaloosa. He always said Traveller rode like a Cadillac. My grandfather also owned two Indian Paint horses named Cochise & Chiricahua Jack. I have used all 3 names in naming my horses & dogs to honor these animals, my grandfather & General Lee.General Robert E Lee

Being a VA born and bred man, I have visited both Lee's and Traveller's graves, as a true native Virginian should. I live less than 3 miles from Lee's house in Arlington, VA. The sentiment around here is to erase the past. Anyway, I am a history buff, and have always enjoyed it, no matter which state you reside. History is history, good or bad. I always admired Lee as a man.

The high school in Houston that gdurand and I both attended at different times was called Robert E. Lee High School. Due to having such a horrible, politically incorrect name, it was changed this year, and renamed for a great former teacher. I admired the teacher very much, but it still struck me as silly. I must be getting old. Frank

We have a very important President in the history of Oregon State, Benjamin Arnold. They named a building after him, rightfully so. Now the Political Correct crowd wants to change the name because Arnold fought for the Confederacy. Nothing more than that, he is being painted with a racist brush for serving "his" country with honor. He served at Gettysburg for cripes sake!! When will this ever stop. As a practicing historian, I am beside myself.

I'd have to go back & look for the pic but I like that pair of boots that Lee made for himself (& Carolyn posted) a few yrs ago probably as much as any pair that has ever came out of that shop. Chocolate brown in my style of boot.
