Best Manly Sweater

Fantastic quality from both... bit pricier than the outdoor knitwear offerings, but noticeably better in my opinion, certainly a little more refined anyway. The weight of the Andersen turtle-neck is staggering! Quality bit of kit...

I can vouch for the North Sea Clothing products. I have a "Blitz Motorcycles" Service jumper and a Victory Shawl Neck. Both are well made and a great product. The Service Jumper is a seriously tight fit tho. I am a 43 inch chest and the 44 Service is skin tight but very comfortable once on. The Victory is a much looser knit. I have a size 42 which is a nice and trim on me.

Expensive jumpers but clearly great quality compared to what you might get on the high street. I wore the service jumper right through the winter here and is as good as new with no pilling and no loss of shape.

I'd also recommend BretonBoutique.com. They specialize in seagoing clothing and have great sweaters and sailor shirts, all reasonably priced. Wonderful little website, too. I might add that I've had several of their striped shirts for years and they've all kept their shape and barely faded. Good stuff.

If you live with cats. I need a kevlar weave cat proofed jumper. Otherwise, I just go through them like one a month. No idea why makers haven't sorted out a way to make a decent lasting jumper for animal owners.

Otherwise the Aero rollnecks from the RAF legacy reissues are my favourites.

Yes, I have the very similar submariners' sweater from Silverman's: I've had it for about 15 years and I know that Outdoor Knitwear do a similar one. I've had navy blue versions of the sub sweater in the past.
But I really like style of the RAF repro version you show us here. How long have you had yours and where did you get it?

You can see they hail from Australia, where Draggin' Jeans seem to have come from. Good decent kevlar jeans, but not fully kevlar lined. Still waiting for the ultimate kevlar jumper. That way it will save my leather jacket during knife fights

The Silvermans one is standard knit - it's nowhere near as well put as the Aero one. When you look at the price, it becomes obvious why. You can buy it here:

Great isn't it? I like RAF repro, but not so much military repro. Everyone seems to be doing military repro clothing.

I've had my Aero for 5 years, but it's been mauled at the edges. I don't think it's going to be a straight forward repair job. There are several canine puncture sites around the forearms where I was clearly losing against the little fur monster. Beware though - the weave of the RAF one is so tight and thick - it is extremely warm. I only get to wear it in absolutely freezing weather - great on a motorcycle with the wind chill factor and neck. The problem then, is rapid overheating indoors. It's just impossible unless you're in a freezing cold place all the time. Aero do a cheaper version (less than half the price) - this one is good like your Silvermans, but nowhere near the class construction of the Comforts Knit.

This is Marius Eriksen of Norway. He has traditional areas of "manly" covered: Spitfire Ace, POW, Ski Champ.
He also gets manly marks for being secure enough to wear what amounts to a very busy, colorful sweater with effortless grace.
