It was K T Keller, Chrysler's successor, who said "our cars may not knock your eye out, but they won't knock your hat off either". He was well over 6 feet tall and weighed 280 pounds. He would not approve a car for production he could not drive comfortably, even the cheapest Plymouth had plenty of room and comfort.

He was CEO of Chrysler from 1935 to 1950. It was during this period that Chrysler overtook Ford to become the second largest auto producer in the world. Customers seemed to appreciate the quality, comfort, safety and dependability of Chrysler built cars even if they were not the most stylish.

What mystifies me is that in this day of jumbo sized Americans, the American car seems to be sized for midgets, even the so called luxury models.

What about SUVs - they seem to be land barges and I see plenty of them even in over-crowded NYC where a small call would be a big asset for maneuvering in traffic and parking. Are those the vehicles that bigger Americans are buying?

I guess so. I drive a minivan because I physically cannot get into most cars today. I can easily get into the typical family cars from before 1970, even the compacts.

By the way Lizzie, your car was made for ladies and gentlemen who wore hats. Your Plodge has enough room for Carmen Miranda and Abe Lincoln to wear their favorite hats, with a couple of basketball players in the back seat. And it was not considered a large car when it was built.

I guise I am lucky when it comes to fitting into vehicles! I had a couple of friends, she was 5'1" and he was 6'1". and I could get into their Ford F150 with stick and drive it, with out moving the seat, no mater which one of them had last driven it!

Well, I went by there yesterday afternoon and it's still there. It's still calling my name, but I'm trying my best to resist.

On a better note, my son has shown interest in the car. I think he's going to go by and look at it today.

I have a question concerning my 1965 Ford Custom 500 that I hope someone here can answer. The light on the automatic transmission shifter indicator burned out yesterday. I know the bulb is located somewhere along the column, but where? How do you find the bulb to change it? I've looked all over the place for a way to access the bulb short of pulling the steering wheel.

I was afraid the steering wheel would have to be pulled to change the bulb. Guess that's one light that will stay out. [huh]
