I'm really pleased all it now needs is the lapels pressed correctly. Which I think they should be not be pressed flat! Any thoughts gents I know most of you have see the suit before.

Lapels might just need a little steam but I wouldn't send a rare suit like that to get pressed. What does everyone else think?

hi hbk well I think they have been pressed in the wrong position as it had a small moth hole just inside the lapel. It is DB with a one button fasting and just doesn't sit right. I think it should a roll collar rather than pressed flat. Unfortunately im at work so cant post a picture.

Hi Hbk no there is no button hole, just the bottom one. Even in this picture it doesn't look quite right.

it must be made to roll to the bottom button then. i've never known a jacket to be made like that... unless it wasn't finished and the top button hole never put on.

before you get the iron out: you should be able to feel where the roll line is just by handling it. the lapel should 'snap' to a position where there is a firm edge. nearly all British suits (especially off-the-rack suits like Burtons) have a very firm and easy to feel roll line. even if the roll line has been re-pressed you should be able to feel the original position.

Hbk the ****** button is in the bottom. Have felt the lepels they have definitely been pressed slightly different to they should be. You can feel the roll line running down to near the bottom button.

I wonder why so many cleaners keep to press lapels instead of steaming them and let them rolling to original shape. It's even easier (if they don't use machine-pressing).

So I saved this suit for a special occasion, which was a stay at Burgh Island. I'm really pleased with it just annoyed I didn't get a picture from the back.

IMO the cuffs on the trousers can be wider. Also, the coat looks a little short for your height, but thats my opinion.

Stunning suit (but we all knew that anyway!). And what a colour! I agree that the jacket could be longer, but those 1930s british suits are often very short. Do you think it could be let down? or have you spent so much on repairs already?

Yeah totally agree guys the jacket looks slightly short, don't think theres anything that could be let down.
But I kinda like the look of how it is. It fits fine in the arm and the back belt sits in the right place I think.
I'm only 5ft6 so the original owner must of been shorter in the body.

All 30's Regular (i.e. not Short or Long) suit coats and odd jackets that I've looked at buying have been a little bit on the short side. I'm thinking it's a combination of the style of the time (many of the renderings have the jacket ending a little bit short) and the fact that people were just shorter then.

Hello 1940sFreddie. The suit looks superb, and the width on those trousers looks magnificent on you. Do you mind giving details of the rest of the stuff you're wearing? Shoes, tie, shirt, pin etc.?

Cheers Eddie, the width of the trousers are fantastic and cover my whole foot haha. The shoes are original 1930s British two-tone brogues, original lemon spearpoint shirt made by Cotella, a lovely tootal tie and a Scotty dog tie bar.

Very nice! Thanks for the info. Did the shoes take a lot of work or were they in good condition? So often I've come across once-nice vintage shoes but they're brittle and disintegrating.

Just another question if you don't mind - is the cloth of the suit fairly heavy-weight? I understand there's a typical weight for vintage cloth that exceeds modern standards, but I'm just thinking that colour seems very 'summery', but the cloth looks rather substantial.

Luckily I have fairly small size 7 feet, I managed to pick this pair up in good condition, they did have a small split in the back which I had repaired. The cloth of the suit is summer weight almost a flannel, I just love the colour.
