Besides religion there's an ultra-heavy pro environmental slant to the whole film. Lots of talks about man despoiling the earth, running out of resources etc..

Solicitous effort to draw young, environmentally brainwashed people into the film. I'm surprised they didn't use global warming or climate change as a reason for "The Flood."

I may be a bit of an outlier, but I actually enjoyed this film, despite going in expecting to hate it. Whatever your theological persuasion, I always held that the Old Testament, especially the early books, was a goldmine of potential for fantasy story telling, and that was taken advantage of here. Was it a 'faithful' adaptation of Genesis? Hell no. But it was certainly a creative interpretation, if a bit heavy handed. I enjoyed the unique take on the Nephilim, and the inclusion and characterization of Tubal Cain. Ray Winston was really the whole reason I saw the film, and I wasn't disappointed in that respect.

I have seen the film, and at school we had to read the bible, so I thought at the time that it wasn't very 'accurate'.

I'm not religious at all, and I have nothing against Christians in general. I do think that given that the source material (the Bible) was edited and re-edited many times over the course of the history of the catholic church that it is misleading to say the least that even the standard current bible version of the flood is 'the truth', but departing from that version of the story, which is in itself enough of a cultural heritage in western societies, is uncalled for and a little dishonest.

Tell the accepted version of the story, it's got enough 'fantasy' as it is.

Genesis, of course, is not the only record of the Noah story; others exist which are, I gather, much closer to the version of the story depicted in the film. I'm still waiting to see it - I'm just not prepared to pay for either subscription television or more than three or four pounds for a DVD.... Until then!
