Let's talk Irish Whiskey....

You know; I had some Red ****** once and wasn't impressed (as I'd reported earlier in this string). However.... This past week, after having read someone's earlier posting about Red ****** being meant for sipping, I ordered some to sip. GOOD stuff when taken slowly like that.

Thanks to whomever amongst ya it was that enlightened me to that.

I doubt it was me but I do like redbreast for sipping. My wife bought me the older Redbreast but I liked the regular Redbreast better. I suppose older is not always better with Irish and Scotch whiskies.

Unfortunately, I'm not much for Scotch. As such, when I tried Bushmills single malt and didn't take to it. I did, however, like the wee dram of Scotch they served us at the Edradour distillery in Scotland. (They claim that's the world's smallest distillery. Only employees like 3 people.) That was good stuff, that. Anyone else been there, drunk that?


Yep--a friend of mine who visited the distillery recently now only buys Edradour -- and I always enjoy my visits to his place . Mostly this week I am drinking Auchentoshan Valinch ( cask strength 57%) which goes down very nicely with a drop of water. Getting back to the Irish though-- I can never order one of my favourite brands any more due to the traumatic memories of the result of wandering into a bar with a pal and asking the rather buxom barmaid for a couple of large Redbreasts please...

I have been drinking Auchentoshan Classic. I like it a lot. The Classic is the weaker version of the Valinch.

I have been trying a few drinks on the rocks this last couple weeks. Chivas Regal, was OK. I guess it was good enough for "Old blue eyes". Jack Daniels old # 7. Ok. Jim Beam Red Stag. Maybe better as a mix.
Jameson was definitely the best so far and could become my go to sippin' whiskey. Bushmills is next on the list. I am up in Ontario, Canada and the sale of liquor is highly controlled and much more expensive than south of the 49th parallel.

Gee, I feel for you if you are stuck with high liquor costs. Interesting that it comes from the country that supplied us liquor during prohibition---albeit illegally.

I imagine their lawyers will keep their name out of any episode of Boardwalk Empire.

Ill have to look for that one. Unfortunately we're limited in what gets into PA but sometimes good stuff sneaks in...

Castle Brands does both Clontarf and Knappogue Castle 12 YO single malt are both good. That triple distillation really smooths out the whiskey. :cheers1:

I have never tried Midleton's. Is that a single malt too?
I have tried Powers though.
