Just purchased yesterday, and wearing right now: A c.late-'50s Gino D'Italia tie made of seta (silk), originally sold at Desmond's Southern California. One of the motifs appears to be two standing equine figures.

Hey guys, I hope this is the proper place to ask this question. I've been watching a lot of Edward Robinson movies lately and have noticed that his tie knots are always on the smaller side, I was wondering which knot will achieve the small knot look.

Just bought my first vintage ties tonight from a thrift store. At least I think they're vintage, not sure how old they are, I'm assuming late 50's/60's because they're relatively thin. Feast your eyes:

here's one I got a few days ago, it was quite dirty but at 20p I took a risk......hmm!
first up there were no washing instructionson the tie, these may have been removed as there seems to have been a black tag on it at some point?
I used soap flakes in roughly 30 degree water washed it by hand in a bowl....as soon as I put it in the bowl it all wrinkled up!!!
I washed it carefully anyway figuring the creases would come out when it dried or when it was cool ironed, hmm again!
after it had dried it was apparent that they had'nt come out so I spent around 3 hours!!! carefully ironing it turning it inside out and back again re ironing it etc etc only to find a flaw had surfaced near the bottom of the front of the tie, I am not sure it was all worth it but hey I had a lot of fun for 20p.
The tie says Duratye on the label and I think trading standards would have something to say about that proud boast?

It's a steel blue/duck egg blue kind of colour with black lines and silver flecks, I actually like it and would love a better example, any ideas as to country of origin or age? its 52" long.

I believe Duratye were British. I think I have one that has the ICI logo on it (so it would be one of those man-made fibres that became sp popular in that period). I will have to check.

I would say 1950s. I think that's a really nice tie.

I do to TT, it's a shame the flaw developed and that it still has the odd slight wrinkle, however under a waistoat you cant see either and it was far too dirty to wear without cleaning, I'd love to find a mint example.
I reckon it will look great with a cream linen suit.

That is odd, but as you say, for 20 pence you can't go wrong...Nice design, by the way.

A c.late''50s square-bottomed example with a nice geometric design and a rather odd (light grape?) primary color; feels like rayon/acetate, but sometimes it's hard to tell with ties from that era. Since it has a label telling you to wear it with a blue suit, you know that it's a...Wembley! (And did you gents know that Wembley is still in the business?? I thought that they had bitten the dust in the '90s, but low and behold I saw a couple at the local Ross, and they didn't look bad.)
