Bow Ties

After eye-balling some bow ties and considering it for a couple of months, yesterday I went ahead and picked one up. It's nothing exciting, a house brand bow tie from JC Penny, but it's a start.

Still working on tying it correctly. I want to wear this one a bit to see if I like them, then maybe get some better, more color-coordinated ones. I went with the patterned black-on-black because I figured it could go with anything while I was trying the look out.

I was better coordinated earlier today, but took my newer sweater vest off for an "around the house" cardigan. Because cat hair is a pain on my nicer clothes...

Looking sharp, Max. I always try to do the best possible job tying my tie, but I try not to get too carried away looking for perfection. A little imperfection lets people "in the know" know that you tied it yourself. Everyone else is going to assume it's a clip-on anyway unless they see it untied later.

Thanks! I'm looking out for a crimson and navy bowtie to represent my collegiate colors, now. I think that's a neat tradition.

I think I'm attracted to the idea of the casual bow tie because it seems a bit eccentric; it lets people know that you're willing to do something just because you like it, all while looking nice at the same time.

I've got one or two bow ties, I don't wear them as often as i should, maybe i need a few more to add variety and to kick start my bow tie wearing. One question though, as a new chap to bows. Is there any type of shirt collar which you aficionados regard as looking better with a bow, and how long should the ideal bow be when tied?

i recall once on a cruise, at our table of 8- i was the only one wearing a real self tie bow tie.
once after a meal, i untied said bowtie and ALL the women at the table then commented on it..
obviously their partners wore ready tied ones.
there is something 'special' about bow ties

Ok, think about it this way: When the bowtie is finished there should be an end piece and a folded piece on each side. Look at a finished bow and try to analyse this. The end pieces are not both in front. One is is behind the folded


Now look at the animation.
You followed all the steps so you noticed the folded part on the left side (from viewer) is already there. right?
The get the foldet part on the other side too you have to fold the long piece AND push it through (under) the knot... Try to understand and then try to tie the bow again.

PS: Yes the part when you push the long end under the knot is hard to see in most front view pictures. Here is one with side view pics.
