Guess styles do repeat themselves.That Blue, white, and black jacket upper left actually looks somewhat 1980's...like something Crockett would wear in Miami Vice.

Well, there is a sample book in the shop. It's really excellent, very much in the Rin Tanaka line of things. Very nice indeed.

p.s. hbk, I think that jacket is still there. I'm still not entirely sure we're on the same page, but the old one I was thinking about is still there. Whether it's the one you were talking about, I'm not sure.

my ideal would be a book on British menswear 1900-50s focussing purely on the developmental trends within everyday menswear.

only downside i can see is that there might be quite a bit in it i have little interest in, e.g. leather, mountaineering, military etc.

I had a look: super rare military gear (japanese navy uniforms anyone?); wrecked denim; foresters jackets from the Harz mountains and so on. Anything and everything rare and unusual.
Don't expect a gallery of close up details of british belt-backs 1935 to 1938.

There were some copies in the store, but they all appeared to be wrapped. I didn't have the energy to ask if i could open a copy since I was still reeling from the £75 price tag on the Tootal scarves (and the £25 price tag for the Tootal Boys Red Indian tie that was dirty, frayed and had a couple of holes in it).

Yes, I suspect most people enter the Vintage Showroom in jaunty mood, but leave reeling. The prices are, errrr, high.

I'm assured that the stuff they have in there is the tip of the iceberg. Their very bet stuff is not for sale, only for study or rental. Much bigger market … Ralph Lauren's researchers are big spenders to get into their warehouse to study.
