Do you think it is ***y if a man dresses in Vintage clothes?

I agree with the others who have said that clothes must fit properly to be flattering--vintage or not. I also think a man has to be comfortable and confident in what he's wearing in order to come across as ***y. There's nothing like fidgeting with your outfit to ruin the look. While my husband wears jeans and a t-shirt with a button-down almost every day, he's comfortable in a suit. When we go to formal events and I see other guys squirming because they don't feel right dressed up, it makes me appreciate that I have a man who can carry himself well no matter what he's wearing.

But if he's comfortable and confident in vintage, that's a bonus.

I love the mens sections in my favourite Vintage Shops. I want a man who will be my Manequin to dress up! My boyfriend flat our refuses. But I think Vintage Clothes on men are ***y. What do you think?

I love men in vintage anything, whether it's a suit or the more casual rockabilly style.

I definitely agree there. Marlon Brando is divine! Just like women it's not plausible to be dressed up all the time. I know that back then it was different as standards of dress for females were so high! But nowadays Its easy to feel overdressed in vintage when your friends are wearing jeans and Tshirt. I know there is nothing wrong with looking smart but I am definitely going to work on some looks that are casual yet still maintain that vintage glamour. Sorry to distract of original post idea bit your comment has made me curious. Does anyone else feel like this when amongst non vintage people? What do you do ?

I dress vintage everyday, so my friends are used to it. In fact, I've only worn modern clothing once around them (after going hiking) and they kind of freaked out when they saw me lol

I could go on and on. Absolutely check out I Love Lucy episodes. He also wore jeans and tennis shoes a few times on the show also. My favorite one is were Fred and Ricky were wearing their favorite clothing and the wives did not like the guys looking so sloppy.

I do! I love a man who is nicely dressed and well-groomed, and those things were definitely more "the norm" with vintage styles than in today's world. I do love a guy in a vintage suit, but I also think a guy can look great in a t-shirt & jeans so long as everything fits well and he's groomed.

I know everyone will think I'm lying, but my husband dresses up/nicely 100% of the time. He seriously even wears starched & pressed pajamas to bed. I'm not joking. :lol: He dresses very classic - typically suits, dress pants with nice shirts, wingtip shoes - and does wear some vintage or vintage-styled items.

Quite honestly, although he *always* looks put-together, I do sometimes envy those ladies whose men dress down in t-shirts & shorts. My husband would never be caught dead in a t-shirt outside the house. Heck, he won't even wear a shirt untucked, or pants without a belt! When my dad came to visit last summer he asked me why my husband was grilling hamburgers in a shirt & tie. :lol:

Yes! I think it is just something you have to get use to...

I don't notice as much now as far as hair goes as I don't have any vintage clothes. The long awkward stares are by far the worst. 30 seconds or so is a loooong time when you have someone staring at you puzzled

Yes I agree, you just get used to it! Sometimes people make comments about dressing like a 'Grandma' (usually men) becuase they can't get their head around why some women don't dress just for the apreciation of men (i.e short skirts). Don't get me wrong I am by no means a prude but I pride myself in wearing exactly what I feel expresses how I'm feeling on any given day and dont particuarly care whether people like it or not! [huh]

As for men dressing in vintage suits I think what I love the most is when the fit is spot on. Even if a man isnt dressed up in a genuine vintage, when its well fitted and has a classic flattering cut it creates a suave ***y look. So maybe instead of being 'vintage' the look just has to be 'classic'

The women wear hats on Sundays to church. These are the older men though. I don't know if I dress vintage, I think my style is timeless, like, you could drop me in 1935 or 1945 and I would fit in because my clothes are not trendy.

I don't know if I dress vintage, I think my style is timeless, like, you could drop me in 1935 or 1945 and I would fit in because my clothes are not trendy.

I remember seeing this too when I lived in DC. It was one of the things I liked about the area My style might be termed retro because I wear a lot of dresses that have a 40s flare. I definitely don't do trends, either, CaramelSmoothie. And when I get the chance, I try to dress my husband in fedoras and suits. We're going into our 4th year of marriage and I'm still trying to convince him that the vintage look is much better than jerseys and baseball caps, lol.

My husband went completely vintage a few years ago and I do find it attractive....but.. I do occasionally find it ages him somewhat. He's 43 with a handlebar moustache and if he's head to toe in tweed, or in a fairisle tank top (as is often the case) I think it makes him look like an Edwardian gent. It can be a little Sir Douglas Hogmanay Melchitt from Blackadder, if you know what I mean. Sometimes I'd rather he was a little more casual. He does own jeans (Freddies of Pinewood 40's ones) and I think with a nice shirt that looks good. I used to run a shop and a regular customer had a vague early 50's look but with a handlebar and I always found that very attractive.
My husband is also bald now (he was a biker with long flowing locks when we met!), and for a while when we went out blokes would shout out 'Bronson!' at him, from the Tom Hardy film of the same name.

Ok so I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who noticed it about the men and women in this area. Not so much the under 45 crowd but you definitely see more of it in the 50+ population.

Heck YES! IF the vintage clothes suit the body type and the personality of the man well. If only I had known my bf could look this elegant and (even more) gorgeous in vintage...wow. Here he is in his first foray into vintage clothing, wearing his new-to-him vintage early 1940's midnight blue DB tuxedo. The vintage dealer says he has the perfect shape and body type for vintage 30s and 40s clothing- I agree!
