What I didn't understand is why Garfield had a liking for lasagna..... of all things..... why not pizza or.... spaghetti bolognese .... why lasagna? ( I still don't lol)

Probably no good reason other than the author, or someone he knew loves lasagna. It could also be because lasagna is not as obvious as pizza. Obscure references are good in just about any form of literature or art. Did you know that Snoopy had a Van Gogh and then, after his dog house burned down, acquired an Andrew Wyeth? How obscure is that?

Yes, I noticed this right away. How could this not have been drawn intentionally? It certainly does draw attention, and that's the point of advertising. With all the lax rules regarding children back then, could this have been just fine to do?
