I'm not sure, Alan. I described it in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread as being like "micro velour" - it's not real thick velour like I've seen. The felt is very thin and the finish is like a very shallow velour. I just don't have much experience with these guys. The inside tag says "Amiata" which I think refers to the color and also says 6 1/2 (size) and "Ecosti". I have no idea what "Ecosti" means.+1... especially the gray... velour?

photos of my hat stamp
That is a very cool hat.A pleasant surprise as the size age and condition were somewhat mysterious. Very soft suede finish.

Finally got around to trying to take a picture of me and my new Resistol.
I didn't realize I was starting to look so OLD!
Edited to put in the better picture.
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Hi Earl
Same hat different face, more facial hair. The hat appears to be VERY good quality, so I'm satisfied that way. I was hoping that the hat was open crown, not cattleman's crease. For $124 including shipping, I"m not really upset though. I hope to be able to get Hatman Jack to put in a John Wayne Cavalry Trilogy square crease in it.
What does "self conforming" in the hat band mean on a Resistol? I hope it will retain it's new shape.
Oh, on a side note, this is the third hat I've ordered, and the second one that come with a smashed box. The first one, my Jaxonbilt, is the only one that THE BOX has showed up in pristine condition. The hats are all fine. [huh]
