I'm afraid it might be either a Bosaleno or a Borslaino, as the description states.

OK, time told - and I guess it's not all bad:

We seem to have an OK little stingy (2") overwelted brimmed Borsalino in sort of a 'camel' colour

sold by 'Mike The Hatter' as indicated on the liner

with the maker's trademark on the sweat.

Here's the problem:

a size label stating '7 1/4 Made in USA' with 'Amalgameted Clothing & Textile Workers Union' crest in the reverse

I'm a solid 7 3/8 and this hat fits like a 7 1/8, I bought it knowing that it would be small, hoping it would stretch a size, but it's not going to make it.... Oh Well, I'm into it cheap and I think I can get my money back locally, Bummer.

Greetings all. I am brand new to the Lounge and the forum. I very much enjoy following the various posts. I have a broad Borsalino style and dating question. I own a Borsalino purchased in Vienna, Austria in 2004 at Oberwalder Wien ( a wonderful hat store). It is grey, with a lapel cord, and all of the proper Borsalino information: 1857 Alessandria, Antica Casa, etc. Yet it is unlined. It is an excellent hat--wore it though an incredible snow storm and it remained unscathed. I have looked for various styles to come up with a name but all seem to be lined. It looks very much like an Anello but the Anello descriptions indicate that they are lined. Under the leather sweatband are the numbers: Cod 110756 followed by Col. 0721. Would anyone have in general info or suggestion on where I might look to determine just what kind of hat I purchased? Thank you all so much.

Excitement this weekend! I found a size 59 (perfect) black Borsalino at a local church rummage sale. My second Borsalino and, frankly, much nicer than my first. Some steaming, some brushing and a slight stretch (it had shrunk a bit) and on the head it went.

Not a great picture, I know. I was still working on cleaning it. The brim is 2".

The liner has the retailer's name..Simpson's. It was a large Canadian department store, rival to Eaton's.

The sweatband stamp.

And the happy buyer (though rather stunned looking)...this is my first hat (I now have 23) that has a wind trolley.

Gotta go back to that rummage sale next year!

Thanks Chepstow. I was quite pleased with the hat once I finished cleaning it and stretching it back to its original size. Sometimes you can find treasures at church rummage sales!

Stumbled on this beauty while searching for something else.....

This hat looks like it just came from the Factory, I sincerely mean it..

The tag under the sweatband says Mar 25, 1957 ....

Felt so soft the bare touch of a finger creases it. Not a mark on it anywhere...

I really didn't need another shade of brown hat but just couldn't pass this one up.....

The tag from the store that imported the hat is on the underside of the leather sweatband and it was priced at $20.00.

Looking at this hat and touching it is very hard to believe this hat is 54 years old....

An earlier cousin to Victor's recently posted thin ribbon Borso. Arrived today - poor auction photos... I'm happy it turned out this nice.

The finish is very nice... thin, light and soft felt. Reminiscent of the early Vita-Felt, but a more subtle and natural springiness.

Looks like you picked up the ultimate thin ribbon Allan !! Beautiful hat!! Is that your crease or did it come with that one? I like it as it's not the so often seen and common teardrop or c-crease Gives it distinction those don't What's the brim dimension BTW ?

Thank you Monbla. I often choose a diamond crease or center dent depending on the age of the hat and feel of the felt. I cleaned and steamed this hat tonight and have it on the stretcher to bring the size back out a 1/4" in circumference. This is a very supple felt that can be dry creased easily as the whim hits. I like the simple center dent with side pinches tonight... will wear it tomorrow and see how it looks in the daylight.
