I've been debating picking one of these up. Anyone have any experience with one?

Nope. I have never seen that vintage razor - Instead, get the Mach 3 Turbo...it gives me the best shave ever. It vibrates, has three blades. My only complaint (I am a cheap skate) is the blades are ****** expensive, even bought at CostCO. But the shave is the closest I have ever, ever had.

If you find that razor...heck the history of it is worth it. I have never seen one.

That Stahly razor just seems like one of those nifty postwar gadgets it would be nice to add to my collection. Neat concept!

Stahly Live Blade razor
Another curiosity, but this shaver had a small but significant success in the USA that started with an eye-catching advertising-campaign with subjects on hunting and fishing, with artwork by James M. Sessions. Several Stahly razor models were marketed from 1946 until the 1960's. The razors were driven by a spring-powered mechanism that produced "about 3,000 vibrations-per-minute of positive shaving action". Stahly Inc. was located at South Bend, Indiana, USA. Later (1960's) also another address is mentioned: General Precision Corp., 5 West Walnut Str., Elgin (IL USA). It is said that the Stahly razors were based on a patent by Russell P. Harshberger of Chicago.

Interesting. It sounds like the predecessor to the electric razor. I hate those things but that is another story....
I have been wanting to try the Mach3 but do not want to shell out the $$'s for it. I was never too fond of disposable razors.
A safety razor does a great shave job too.

Hmmmm... A vibrating razor that you wind up. I just wonder if you will have a face left after you are done. It looks so big and bulky.

Interesting novelty

I'm game to try most anything. It's a fair shave, but not worth the bloodletting. I'll stick with my Mach3. Some things are better now than in 1947.


A 2007 edit: I dropped the Mach3 for a double edged safety razor long ago. I was full of hogwarsh.

Just a note of praise for the modern Mach 3 Turbo -- it's a fabulous razor. My boyfriend picked one up for me preemptively so that I wouldn't be tempted to use his razor on my legs. They've recently come out with essentially the same product for their ladies' line (Venus).

2 complaints: First, it's ugly as sin. They just don't seem to make things with beautiful styling the way they used to. Second, as everyone's said, the blades are highway robbery.

I still think it's worth it! Probably a good sight safer than that vintage gizmo, too
