True. Some Purple label and even Polo items from the past few years looked more 30s than this. So it's not like they don't know any better.
Did you notice that the brown "30s" suit has a wonky lapel roll? Maybe the fabric is too thin for it?

It is details like that wonky lapel, that drive me crazy when it happens to clothes I'm wearing - and most of the time, the tailor will tell you "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do."

While I wish Ralph did some true replicas - at least he keeps the vibe alive. I have some neat 30s "inspired" clothes from him over the years that at least allow me to have some of the vintage details and style points I crave. I'm sure he would do true repros if it was profitable - that company knows how to print money.

Saw these at Macy's in NYC last week.

Matching Polo Ralph Lauren cotton/linen blend vest and trousers. They looked pretty nice and vintage style, perfect for summer. Unfortunately no trousers in my size and there is no matching jacket, so it's not a full suit. Still looked neat.

One of my favorite sport coats is green and gold plaid in Italian cotton, Polo by RL. It can fit with a range of period looks from the 30s to the 60s. I had my eye on this jacket for about three years at RL outlet stores in my area. I couldn't find it for sale online any cheaper, so I finally bit the ****** and went for it, although it still cost more than I wanted to spend even with all the sales and discounts applied. Irony of ironies, six months later I saw it on ebay for half the price I paid.
