Pyrat XO. Went on a rum reconnaissance mission at my local tiki bar. Tried everything but their stash of original British Navy rations.
Never liked rum before as anything but a mixer till I tried this stuff, now it's all I drink there!

Great sipping rum! Though I personally find 2 snorts is about I can do before that sweet bubblegum and bananna flavor gets too cloying. [huh]

Did a survey of my bar while emptying it for the renovation of Trader Scott's Tiki Bar and Lounge and noted that I had over 60 bottles of rum. Everything from Bacardi Silver to Diplomatico and LemonHart 151. I have several favorites, but I always come back to the Flor de Caña and El Dorado for a regular sipping rum.

If you like Bajan you can‘t go wrong with anything from Foursqare Distillery, also with it’s sub-brands like Real McCoy, Doorly‘s…

This stuff is always top notch in It’s respective category, not so in shelf height, no Solera bulls..t but true age statements and no sugar or other Schweinkram added.

Excellent taste sipped or mixed but unfortunately not recommended by leading dentists…

A nice, little, 5yo Jamaica-Blend, quite inexpensive and from a French indie-bottler.

Typical Jamaican style though not especially a high-ester monster.

Still nicely pheneolic and briny, some green olives as well.

Goes well with some water as a sipper, swims like Mark Spitz, and of course as a mixer.

My drinking days are behind me now - one of those unfortunate things where I developed a health connect unconnected to alcohol but which has made it sensible for me to give it up entirely (despite having rarely ever managed in a month the recommended healthy limit for a week). But Rum was one of my preferences (alongside whiskey and gin), usually with ginger beer (a sharper and more aggressive flavour than ginger ale) as a mixer. A late friend who had a spell as a publican introduced me to the Kraken years ago, that's very nice, and one of which I would have had the occasional neat sipping glass. Sailor Jerry's I did like too, though that has to be approached with care, being 80% proof. Mixes well. Dead Man's Finger was another.

My dad's a rum man too; a while back I picked him up a bottle of Tidal Spiced, which he reports is very nice indeed. I'm now keeping half an eye out for an alcohol-free option. Tried a couple so far, though not much impressed. The flavour comes close, but they lack the 'afterburn' of alcohol which seems strange, though ginger beer as a mixer covers that mostly. Alcohol free beers have come a long way I'm told (I wouldn't know, I've never liked beer), but the spirit imitations seem to have a long way to go.

I‘m a complete weekend connaisseur meanwhile.
During working days I don’t drink any alcohol at all and on weekends it‘s one dram per evening, somtimes along with one beer or one glass of wine and that is usually it for me on a Friday or Saturday, Sunday‘s already „dry“ again.

Since my in law is slowly passing away from cancer over the last years, even those red nose days during Christmas… are gone.

Some more pretty fine and inexpensive R(h)um.

The McCoy is a sub brand from Foursquare, so pure Barbados, just great for those who like that style.

The J.M. is from French Antilles, so obviously a blended Agricole.
Certainly not top shelf but very good for the price, so might be one to consider in case one is interested in that style.

Emptied a bottle of that Pasador Gran Reserva some time ago and found it pretty good. :)

Love this thread, so many great rums mentioned. Foursquare and Hampden are excellent for sipping or mixing. I also like the idea of adding a bit of water to open up the flavors. Definitely going to try the McCoy and J.M. blends.
