"Reforming" a nubuck leather jacket

Hey all,

Complete noob to TFL.

Recently, I acquired this Orvis jacket:

Orvis Leather Jacket.001.jpg

It's very soft and comfortable, and I like it a lot.

It's almost too soft though. It's lost it's shape (assuming it ever had one) and hangs rather oddly as you can see from the photo.

Is it possible to "stiffen" the nubuck a some to look a bit more "tidy"?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can convey to this neophyte.

Ok, let's try this again. It's time to start wearing this jacket.

It's a very comfortable jacket. It was obviously stuffed in a box or something for an extended period or something as it's definitely lost it's "shape"

I know less than nothing about nubuck. Most of what I'm finding on the interwebs referred to suede, which this is definitely not.

Is it possible to "reform" it?

I'm thinking about sending the jacket to Arrow Leather Care in Kansas City. Any pros or con's ?

Thanks for your thoughts

Chris

Doobs, I am considering using Arrow Leather care to clean and repair a WW2 U.S.N. M-69F Transport coat. How did you find their service to be? Pros? Cons?

Hey Dan,

They were the epitome of professional.

I had some issue getting the initial payment done, and the owner walked me through the process.

Shortly thereafter I got a phone call from one of the "facilitators" walking me through the process and asking questions on anything specific I wanted attention paid to.

Throughout the cleaning process, they sent out updates.

They did give me a time frame expected, and barely met it, but they met it, so no real issue. That "might" be the only con. I was hopeful to get it back early, but they met their requirement, so I don't know if that is a "con".

The amusing part was the cleaning was appreciably more than I paid for the jacket....

And yes, it'still as soft and supple as before.

It's one of my favorite jackets.

So, yeah, if I had a garment that was of some value to me that needed cleaning, I would send it to them.

Highly recommended.

cheers
