Oriental Wall Fans

I have always loved them and recently purchased on the size of the one in this photo. I have not taken a pic of the actual one i purhased yet as i do not know how or where to put it in my home. I would just like more info on how they were used in vintage decor. Any history, ideas, etc would be most helpful
