They lost their way rather thoroughly.

I had a 1996 Grand Am GT that I loved dearly...it was a pretty good car, but unfortunately it met an early demise four years ago, and at that point I looked at what Pontiac was offering and my reaction was, "EUGHGHGDFJKGHERITYIGH". Which is not good.

I wish Pontiac maintained its edge, but the teeth were taken out of that marque long, long ago.

Sort of a one man attempt at reviving the marques earlier image:

Pontiac has cheated death a few times in its life when management didn't know what to do with it. Finally, the weakest appendages had to be amputated so that the rest of the body can go on. A wide-track salute to the Chief.

I know what you're talking about. When I lived at home while I was in school, I was driving a 68 Bonneville. When I see pictures of one, I still can't believe how big it was. You could put more stuff in the trunk than you could with a small SUV. The car was totalled in a rear ender. The ***** that hit it knocked off the rudder and the main mast too.

Pontiac built the first functional transparent (plexiglas) car for the NY '39-'40 World's Fair. This "ghost car", one of two built by GM, is the sole survivor.

That's how cars are supposed to be. Pontiac's wide-trac boats were amazing cars. I miss boats. They were killed off this year with the demise of the Ford Panther Platform. Long live the land yacht, even if they're not producing them anymore. I will keep fixing and fixing them until the day I die.

Mercury is gone (has been gone from Canada since 99 except for the Grand Marquis (and the St. Thomas Ontario plant is closing this year - bye bye Grand Marquis, Crown Vic and Lincoln Town Car), Plymouth (gone from Canada at least), Oldsmobile, Saturn has been put to sleep, I hear Hummer has hummed its last tune.

The times they are a' changin, but in the end, nothing new here: Hudson, DeSoto, Studebaker, Nash, etc., etc....

Two of my favorite cars were a '67 Impala and a '73 Delta 88, both exquisitely cosmetically challenged, but ran like nobodys' business.

The Impala blew its crankshaft, and the Delta, rustbucket that it was, had to go when I moved double the distance from my job back in '95, when it cost me, at 1995 gas prices, $60/week in gas to get back and forth to work. Today, with present gas prices, my car costs me less money to cover the same distance.

Yeah, we've done this discussion on another thread, but I think it bears repeating.
Simply that cars today have NO lines IMHO, they all look alike.
I wanted to see the G8 develop further.
Oh well...
