I have a "thing" for guys with long hair. I married one and was engaged to 3 others. Dated several. Friends with several. My best friend is a guy with long hair. Get rid of the ponytail holder, please, let it loose! Please. And post a picture.

i wouldn't say long hair looks bad. it works for some, with certain looks.
but if you want to evoke the 30s-50s era in your overall appearance (and you have the clothes) then it is a serious impediment to have long hair. hairstyle is crucial to an authentic look (if that's what you want). heck, you can even look vintage in modern clothes if your hair looks vintage.

Females obviously liike to mix looks a lot more than males, then, HBK, what with all the tattoos and pierced faces I see paired with a lovely vintage turnout.

IMO long hair is accepted more here in Europe than in the U.S. All the while I was growing up I was always told long hair looked "grubby" hence now that I am older and trying to grow my hair I always have this little voice in the back of my head saying "Cut your hair hippie!"

That's not the nagging voice in your head. Its me.
