Little help please

I picked this up on ebay, it was advertised as a 1940's suit. I'm no authority on suits so any information you could give would be very much appreciated.

Have you checked the jacket's interior pockets for a union label? I'll bet you a donut that if it indeed has one, it's the '49 to '62 version. I'm no expert, so you can't take any of this to the bank, but I'm guessing that your suit is from the earlier end of that spectrum.

Very nice lookin' suit, by the way. Do you mind saying how much it set you back?

It's a doozy! A gem! Every detail screams late 40's. You are one lucky guy. And it looks like it fits. I hate you!!!

I'm gonna go with a '49-'62 label as well. Hollywood waist, plain patch pockets, fabric and vent (!!!) all in one package make me think later '50s.

Very nice find. Love the waist treatment on the trousers, too. I think I'll go be jealous now

First off, the pictures are from the auction page, I just won it last night for $123.00. Are there some buttons missing for the bracers or is there some other configuration I'm not familiar with?

As soon as it arrives I'll look for the union label. I was thinking 50's as well. I hope it fits, the measurements are right on for me.

While it seems like rather unusual placement for a suit like this one, the rear brace button may be on the outside of the waistband. That wasn't unheard of in earlier suits, but seems like it would wreck the smoothness of the Hollywood waist, IMNSHO.

Interesting that it is singe vented. Maybe a "49-50" modern suit?

Well, has it arrived yet, GWD? It isn't often that I so eagerly anticipate the arrival of someone else's new/old stuff. If that suit were mine, I'd be looking for occasions to wear it.

Early to middle 50s, at a guess. That short little vent is quite indicative of the era, as is the low button stance/long lapel line. I would expect a late 40s suit to have wider lapels and no vent.

Maybe the rear suspender buttons are on the outside of he waistband and so can't be seen o the inside shot?

I agree ...very atomic... and fabulous..what size? The answer is not 44 BTW!

Somebody must have cleaned out an attic with lots of stuff from that era and sold it all to my favorite old-junk peddler, from whom I've already bought (for 10 bucks a pop) three or four jackets with the '49-'62 union label and that short center vent with that little bit of lining material. The lapel line and button stance aren't consistent jacket to jacket, but there's something that just says early to mid-1950s about all of them, just as GWD's does.

You're going to like this one, if it fits well. Good luck - it's a real score with those loops and the fabric.

The suit has arrived! The jacket is a bit snug but there is some room to let it out. The trousers are a perfect fit and the rear buttons for the braces are not there at all they must have fallen off at some point.

Here is a picture of the union tag.

It's definitely a 46L and I'm very anxious to have it tailored but will have to wait until after the holidays.

Yup, sure does look like the '49-'62 tag to me.

How snug is it? I've gotten to where I'll buy a too-snug vintage jacket (provided the price is right) in the expectation that 1.) I'll continue losing weight until it fits, as I could still stand to drop a few more pounds anyway, 2.) a competent seamstress can make it fit, or 3.) I can pass it along to someone else.
