Observations: Creased sleeves. Excellent! Great shirt with nice big collar points. And that's the way to shine shoes! We need to find you a white linen handkerchief.

I wonder if those buttons have been moved at some point? And are those "rope" shoulders?

No, those are pressed open seams. Rope means that the sleevehead -- the top of the sleeve -- is raised above the shoulderline. The shoulder is a tad extended, however.

Actually the wool is not as heavy as you might imagine, I was quite comfortable in itwhen taking the photo, but it's only spring here. I would probably only wear it at night somewhere with an onshore breeze in summer. Although I do remember reading once that the French Foreign Legion's famous heavy serge overcoats were for marching in across the deserts of North Africa, because it was found, that although it was unbelievably hot in them, something I couldn't imagine, it stopped the evaporation of sweat, and consequent dehydration of the troops, and they could actually tramp for endless miles all day on a small ration of water.
Anyway, back to the suit, the invisible mending on the front is ****** incredible, the company, called Doree, is one of the last in the country that does it, as it is a dying art no-one wants to bother with anymore in the age of polyester 100 buck suits, but the workmanship is exquisite, (an old Japanese lady apparently), and I regret that I don't have the right lenses to truly show the work in detail. I know you can't see the amazing trouser construction when the suit is on, but it's one of those things that: well I Know so that's all that matters. it's like the difference between those who wear clothes with the label showing,and those who don't need to...on the subject of which, the shirt is a Van Heusen Made In Australia, but I can't accurately date it except to say it has to be pre-70's...nice though.

That is a great suit for that price, or any price well above what you paid.

The button stance seems somewhat unusual to me though...

...but then again, it does give the suit character.

Well spotted that man, they are in fact patent leather shoes from England in absolutely mint condition, hardly ever worn, got 'em for about $3 out in the boondocks, the backstory on the suit is here;

the glasses are 14k gold antiques, also found somewhere obscure and refitted with prescription lenses. You just can't buy them like that anymore and luckily there is a laser welder across the valley who can do microscopic repairs on them for me.
