A pen communicator. We're close, now, with cell phones, but we still haven't licked the miniaturization issue.

We stopped making cell phones smaller a couple years back, and brought them back to a reasonable size. I was very thankful, as I can barely dial as it is.

How about a cloaking device or stealth camouflage? They could market it to peeping toms!

I wouldn't use a transporter. It raises some uncomfortable questions. It tears a person into bits and re-assembles them - did that person just die and get replaced?

This brings up other serious questions: Could you clone people this way? Use it as a replacement for plastic surgery (replicate a younger looking self)? Use it to create extra organs? Stick your kid in the beam as a "time-out" sort of punishment?

I'm willing to use it. I just don't want to be the first to use it. (Or perhaps in the first couple thousand or million.)
