No I am talking about the people that either 80's up all their vintage or make it a semi appreciationographic photo shoot. Which I don;t get since they would more then likely be selling to a woman anyway.

Well just keep in mind that not *everyone* out there who is into vintage is as nerdy about it as we are. Most of them just don't know better. As for the tasteless trash that gets put up there, I agree. Just report them and move on.

The 80's-ed styles are meant to appeal to the trendy ladies and demonstrate the versatility of a piece, so shoppers know that they can incorporate it into their own (usually modern) wardrobes. Most people who wear vintage do not wear period-correct ensembles. As long as it doesn't detract from the quality of the piece, I'm not in any way offended.

Perfectly nice blue cashmere cardi ruined by giant shades and gold lamé stretch belt worn too high. I hate that whole 'two waistbands' look - low rise trousers with a belt just under the ****s.

sometimes, if the seller knows what he/she is doing...the mish mash actually looks cute. i get the vintage/80's/indie look as i kinda live in an epicenter of that trend. some get it...some really don't.

in your example...even though the outfit is dreadful, the cardigan is super cute. i'd buy it. lol

i'm not offended. just...perplexed and amused.

I think it looks ridiculous, but I wouldn't say I'm offended. I think the goal is to put the item into a "Carrie Bradshaw" setting so people will see how they can incorporate it into an otherwise modern, trendy wardrobe.

There is one male seller who is particularly bad about this type of thing - all of his photos have him in huge dark sunglasses, pouting, and striking all sorts of "trying too hard" poses. It is actually kind of comical. Especially when he put up an auction with him modeling a women's WWII WAC tunic with some jeans. lol

Ummm....are you sure that their primary interest is selling things? Maybe they get a kick out of posing like this to gain their 15 minutes of quasi-fame. Not everyone who poses on ebay is actually interested in selling some things...some people are more interested in the "fame" or artistic outlet.

And, if I had a (pre) teenage daughter I could use as a model, I'd probably try just about anything to get her to model for me while still protecting her identity, including hiding her face with large sunglasses, and letting her chose funny wardrobe items to model and laugh at.

Just a thought.

I am the most conservative human and understand some of it is ridiculous looking but I look at it like at least they are trying to show some creativity.
As a seller I used to try to watch all of this stuff to see what the younger group was doing as I believe this is who all of this is directed at as the buyer. I gave up basically and now just try to put things in the original meant for use.
As a cardiganaholic i would probably buy this blue one if it fit me.
I abhor the babydoll look that is current at least here in Texas. I was in the maternity section and didn't even realize it the other day looking for a mustard color blouse. Someone gave me a fab mustard purse but for the life of me I cannot find anything to match it.
I have not bought a few times just because it had a real bad vibe about the model or something. This had more to do with perceived cleanliness of the clothing though I clean the item when I buy anyway.

My friends aren't that tiny! And all my friends have boys the right age =no girls= to model dresses for me! lol

As a side note, I know quite a few people who have "tested" products on ebay to gauge customer reaction to a product they were considering releasing. Looking for feedback, comments, market value, free marketing, etc. It's not always about final value of a product.
