Does anyone know of any books, website, or other resources on popular restaurants and their menus in the 30's, or haute cuisine, etc? Thanks.

Actually there's quite a plethora of information out there regarding this topic. Two that I know of and have seen are the cookbooks of the iconic Savoy Grill and Maxim's.

Of course if you are interested in haute cuisine, then you really should pick up a copy of Escoffier's "Le Guide Culinaire", the "bible" on the subject.

Somewheres in our photos I have a picture done by the house photographer at Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant of my mom and dad with friends from the late 40's or early 50's. It's a thrill when ever I see it. Now to dig it up some time.

Are there still house photographers at places that take those memory of your visit to... shots?

I recall that Polaroid Instant film was a boon to their jobs as you could have the picture framed in a decorated holder with in minutes.

At Universal Studios you can get pix of the Jurassic park ride by the car load.

Menus from cruises from the 30s - 50s pop up on ebay all the time. They're a great resource for what would have been served in the different class dining rooms.

If you include railroad dining-cars, there are still some menus out there and the complete Pennsylvania Railroad diner cookbook is online--I'll see if I can find it again and post the URL. (Some stuff, once you know how it's made...)

This is a great cookbook with many original "Golden Era" recipes. I own it and its great. I recommend it.
