BUCO Horsehide Breches- Need copy made!

Hi Gang,

Wondering if anyone here could help with a project I've been working on a couple years now. What I have is a vintage pair of button fly BUCO horsehide motorcycle/racing breeches which are lined in moleskin (or similar fine, brushed cotton). I'd like a pair made- the originals fit, but as typical of 1940-50s clothing, the waist is fine but calves are just too tight to zip. And besides, I want to wear these at the track for real protection as much as a vintage look so I want new leather pants that won't disentergrate if I spill!!!

I tried Langlitz and their cowhide breeches start at $700 and a copy of these in horsehide, well... Just too much... and they shy away from HH anyway it seems. Likewise I contacted Aero and sent images of my pair and they declined due to work load and complexity of the breeches.

So still I am looking for someone to clone these in horsehide in the more reasonable (for my budget) range of $500-ish. I'd even toyed with contacting some of the "overseas" folks that sell the HH jacket on eBay- Spearhead but would prefer otherwise.

Anyone here able to copy these or know someone that can? I could really use some help!

Lewis Leathers are making some trousers, so may have the skils to do so. But they're not going to be cheap enough, i fear. More like £550 (about $750, I guess) in their catalogue.

Have you contacted Indy Magnoli?

Perhaps another possibility is a local maker of rodeo/motorcycle chaps, if you can provide a good pattern and specifications.

Thanks for the suggestions and input guys. I'm checking all options!! I did email Aero again to see if work load would now allow the project, or worst case, if slightly altering the breeches and simplifying the pattern a tad would make them a little more do-able.

Thought of Indy but I don't think he does Horsehide (???). I'll post any info regarding this in case folks are interested.

No, we don't have horsehide, the best we could do is one of our heavier cowhides. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Perhaps these folks?

Have no experience of them, and don't ride myself...so no idea, really. But their line looks VERY interesting...and, while they don't offer leather breeches in the catalog, perhaps they'd make them up for you.
