Not that Jeff needs any help from me, but for the record, Jeff has nice hats. You should buy hats from Jeff. My $0.02; worth what you paid.

These hats were immaculately packaged, and the UPS guy had to work pretty hard to take this hat box out of commission. gah - Oh well, no harm done.

For quite some time (only these very last two delivered last week, were without blemish) EVERY hat box I received had a hole punched in it, no exception. It was if they were trying to peek inside to see if there was anything really in there....and often you could indeed see the hat (if not double boxed, and even then.....they got through the second box once).

Back again with a new hat.
Akubra The Boss 1096 Black.

It was supposed to be a 6 7/8- 7 or 22 inch circum. I was hoping it was a 56

It has no tag but box says 1030 Blle 57. Not sure if it's the original box but it's an old Outback trading box.
Akubra 1030 would be a Boomerang so maybe the box originally was for a different hat.

The hat is so nice but it's big. How can I shrink it?
These hats tend to shrink but this one looks like it's been very well kept in it's box.

I so want to make it work.

Hat opening is about 6.75 inch across & 8 inch long...Seems pretty big & taking circumference is not always easy.
Still these hats tended to shrink a size or maybe more so I need to make that happen.

Looking at other marked 56 with measurements of a hat size between 6 7/8 & 7 the width should be more in the 6 1/2 in & 8 inch length.

This seems like it might be at least a 57 or 58?

Ex New hat Akubra Boss should be going back to the bay as not a 6 7/8-7.
It's 23 inch in the circumference so a 7 1/4. Anyway too big even to hope to shrink in myho.

Received three new Akubra since that mishap.

Just ordered a Sz 7 Resistol Tuff Nuff 20X straw from about 1990's - early 2000's with leather sweat band.
CA is really hot & although I really would like a real straw a Shantung Panama would be a good workhorse.
Maybe have paid too much even at 1/3 cost with the shipping but it's about $200 new (yikes) Looked to be in excellent condition & straw hats in lightly used prime condition have been hard to find. I have been looking on/ off about a year. I like the way Resistol fits & hopefully the 7 won't be too big as Resistol lists a 7 as 22 1/4 inch & I'm more like 21 7/8 - 22 in. Think it's called the Conley.

This is a cool one. Stephen L. Stetson - related to John B. Stetson, but John wasn't happy about him starting his own hat company, so he sued him about it - thus the disclaimer they were required to put on every hat after the court decision.

Stephen L. Stetson - "The Manhattan" 7 3/8 - I hit it with a little steam and put it on a four-way hat jack just to encourage it to fit me a little better.

According to Jeff's marketing copy, which I'm trying not to explicitly plagiarize, Stephen L. Stetson produced hats from about 1933 to about 1947, which is the year he died.

Sometimes I stop and think, "Jeez this hat is like 80+ years old" and stops me in my tracks for a minute. I love that we can see the value in this things.

...that would be one Mr. @Bill Hughes - and Mr. @jeffgarf much to my eternal frustration and to the detriment of the overall quality of my hat collection.
