What hat are you waiting for today?

Not sure what possessed me to save this hat, but the cost was minimal and these oddball brands need keepers. I like the style as well. Haven’t found a thing about Revere Hats so far. The hat store is another frustration. You would think that sometime between 1851 and 1995 that someone would have taken a good photo of the exterior and it would have been shared on the web by now.

Did you look to see if the sweatband has a Stetson Lot Number?

On its way from France, a brand not seen here recently, from what I can tell. A Crambes.

Prior brand 4X Quality hat from Denver Colorado. Looks about 1930's offhand. There was an earlier company in Denver called Grove & Prior, wholesellers of hats, caps and gloves. I grabbed a letter from that company that I found on eBay right after I bought this hat.

Miller Fine Hats, Denver CO. 4X Quality. I think I really overpaid for this raggedy hat, and will dump more money into it to fix it up, but this seems like the oldest Miller I've seen and I'm thinking/hoping it's from the 1920's, if not earlier.
That "ragged" hat turned out to be the Elmer Keith hat, so I actually underpaid for it!

Another oldie that's going to need work. It has no sweatband or paper tags to identify the maker. It has a narrow leather secondary hatband like I've seen on a few early Stetsons. I don't know if other brands had similar bands. These may just be aftermarket items.

It is. After a bit of TLC it’s quickly become my go-to. A few blemishes but the felt is in excellent condition.
Oh did I miss the pictures on the other threads if you’ve already received it? I’ve just received another 50s Strat that I’m going to settle in to rehabbing shortly !

Ahh this looks great excellent teardrop happening
Love the wind cord too
The felt is very easy to shape, it practically falls into place and just needed a bit of steam and pressure to get the creases more or less even. The wind chord is a nice touch although I had to re-stitch it to the back of the bow.

I do however find myself wondering if there is something very close to this but newer, since internally hat shows its age and as comfortable as it is I’d be wary of wearing it while travelling. I’d be tempted by a modern OR RD depending on the readability of the crown as I really can’t see myself in a cattleman, the teardrop or centre dent work best for me.

I’ve thought down this line as well but I’m just not happy with the lack of shapability of modern open roads and Stratoliners so my personal answer has been to pick up an already beat up silverbelly Stratoliner as a travel hat

When they say ‘unshapeble’ surely that’s not literal? It’s a felt hat, presumably with stiffener added. I’ve heard that the modern RD OR is still a fairly soft dress felt machine pressed into a cattleman crease, and so theoretically at least should be reshapable once the stiffener has loosened up a bit or washed out?
