RMC J100 vs. Aero J100 Black Jerky

their Board Racer is a fine jacket, and I agree that Aero is much better than one might believe, judging by how their star has faded in the perception of TFL.
However, it´s even more tricky to get it fit right than the RMC, due to very narrow shoulders and tiny armholes.
Yes, the Boardracer has a special cut. It didn't fit me, even in a large size. That's why Aero made me a custom j-100 based on the Premier highwayman pattern. And I think it's great :)

Chris be careful with the RMC bc at least in the Kyoto store I got mine at, I was definitely told/warned in very friendly terms there are no exchanges or refunds. Not sure about the RMC elsewhere. Fit is the priority. The only thing I wish Aero would do is customize p2p but they don't. I am loving my j100 though! The smell, the leather and ofc the fit! Just took it on a motorcycle ride to work Tuesday and it was awesome!

also the rmc j100 has no pockets except for the two chest and they are like the rear seats in a 911. fairly useless haha. but like a 911, you got it for the ride and excitement, nothing else. forget practicality.

Thanks, everyone — I’ve already learned quite a bit of new information!

From what I’m reading, there definitely seems to be a risk that the Aero J100 might not fit me properly, even though it’s “made to measure.” That does make me a bit doubtful about Aero.
I do know that Aero accepts returns for jackets that don’t fit, but to me, that still sounds like quite a lot of hassle and effort.

I think I’ll wait for the opportunity to try on an RMC J100 instead.

Since I have a relatively “normal,” athletic build, there’s a decent chance that size 40 or 42 could fit me.

As for the price:
Yes, the RMC is very expensive. But since this jacket is meant to be my one and only, and I’ve already been waiting for over two years, the price isn’t really that important :)

Okay, I am 182 cm (5’11”) and 78 kg (172 pounds), and I have an athletic build from bodyweight fitness (a bit broader than average, but not like a bodybuilder :D).

I think/hope size 40 or 42 could work haha.

Based on your size, if you want a slimmer fit like me, a 40 rmc should fit good. but keep in mind a 40 in one brand may totally be different than a 40 in a different brand (Aero). the rmc has measurements on their site. check it out and compare the #s to jackets you may already have, doesn't have to be leather.

I don't think you'll be happy with an Asian pattern with this body shape. The same could apply to a standard board racer. At least that's the case for me and I would describe myself as relatively slim but v-shaped.
But trial and error makes perfect sense.
Where do you live? Maybe there's a shop nearby that has Aero or Vanson or something? Just to try them on?

You may be 100% right. I think Chris needs to try it on for sure. Everyone's preferences are different. My schott 689h and Aero j106 are (to use canuck panda's description iirc) \ / while the j100s are ) (. Ive got a 37 inch chest and wears 29 jeans so kinda \ / but I like the fit. here is another pic I don't believe I posted. let me know your thoughts.

BTW those are $10 banana republic chinos from costco and they did awesome in the Japan heat lol

I ve got three jackets and really don't need any more but tbh a type 3 leather may be my last. JL is definitely a consideration!
The only reason this is my only JL jacket is having to deal with the BS that are customs and duties between the US and the EU. And it looks like it's not going to improve.
JL themselves were great to deal with and very accommodating re said duties.

Awesome! Great collection btw. Not right away but now I'm considering the Vanson Maverick! San Francisco and Boston are places I want to visit in the future so let's see which one destiny takes me first. I definitely want to try before buying

BR in black Vic (no teacoring at all) vs Jerky vs Shinki.
I have no idea if it is the same Shinki as the RMC.

Sizing wise I'm 1m72, 75Kg give or take and this is a stock 40.

Wow, what beautiful jackets!

The Board Racer fits perfectly – that’s exactly the look I want to achieve with my future café racer leather jacket :)
Simply timeless.

Go for the Blackened Brown Vicenza - it fades to a darker brown than the Jerky and is a similar weight. Jerky is slightly more flexible initially.

The reason that I advise this is that Jerky is a fantastic hide and so is the Vicenza BUT Jerky shows the base/crust colour very quickly and I was quite surprised by the rapidity of the topcoat's wearing off at edge areas: I am happy with this on the Plainsman (which is now my knockabout jacket), but the CR I have in Blackened Brown has much more subtle fading and the grain is tighter. I imagine that they'll look similar in a decade, but I definitely made the right choice on the CR - I don't want it looking too bashed up too soon.

You can try the RMC store in London

I just saw that it is a staggering EUR 3.150 on the RMC webpage now. That is - a lot...

They closed it down! The funny thing is they used to claim the costs of running a London shop is why their web prices are so high, but they closed the shop and increased their prices!

Completely unconscionable because rent alone would have been at least half their costs, having spoken to tailors and other shop owners in that part of London.

Jerky shows the base/crust colour very quickly and I was quite surprised by the rapidity of the topcoat's wearing off at edge areas

So I share your preference for a slowly ageing topcoat, even though I like Jerky better as a hide itself, but generally the people who come on here wanting "tea core" and "Shinki" want super fast fading.
