As usual you combine elements wonderfully well.
What a kind compliment, thank you, it's much appreciated. Later today I am off to a gathering of early MG cars.
My hat & shirt will get as much attention as the car. Tina, chanced upon a fabric depicting early MG cars.
She then went online to the MG car club and found MG lapel pins which she bought and made buttons with them. She bought a different coloured lapel pin and made a hat pin on the hat that former Lounger, Esther Weis, made for me.

The finished result is quite impressive, even if I do say so myself.

Do you like old MG's? Here's one or two that will be there today.

The Jewish community is not the only one that values their black hats. The protestants are known for their austere leanings (over here at least), verging on chromofobia. Loads of black hats to be found and a lot of them in more formal styles like homburgs. Aside from religious and technical reasons to appreciate the black hat, there is a practical one too (or at least there used to be): when houses were warmed and cooking was done with wood or coal, there was a lot of soot floating around in the air. Try and brush that off your white hat at the end of the day.
After grey, most of my hats are black.

The Amish have entered the chat.

Happy Saturday morning! Warm and muggy with an overcast sky and possibility of a thunderstom later ( and then 4 more days of storms). I feel a week of Hemp and Akubras coming up here. Time for a happy bright shirt and one of the Hemp Stratoliners, The Sage Green is currently in competition with my my new blue Hemp Borsalino as my favorite colored summer hat. Originally is was a darker green shade. Over time this one has faded just a bit and I like it way better now

Yes! I DO like old MG's. My parents had a TD while I was growing up, and I later got to drive it around town when I finally got my drivers license. I still can't believe they let me do that, lol. I also DO very much like that MG shirt you're wearing.

Just catching up on the last couple days.
The LOTXXXX stamp from this lightweight hat with western leanings suggests a manufacture date in the 1920s. Charles E. Blair operated a store in Laramie from 1904-1927. He became mayor of Laramie in 1926 and his home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cloudy details. Not sure if the imprint is for the store (which was called White House Dry Goods) or for him personally.

Alan your collection never ceases to amaze, this is another great one!
40s Mallory in whip stitched heather. First heathered GP lookalike I’ve seen, I think.
Memory can’t be counted on so much for such things. View attachment 705604 View attachment 705606 View attachment 705605
Randall, I'm love the heathered felt on that Mallory. Really unique!
Gannon Highwayman in natural beaver, out on a cloudy cool morning. I think of this as a 1930’s Western fedora.

The Highwayman is one of my favorite styles, love that one in natural.

I love that color - it looks so much better in your pictures than it does in any of the stock Stetson photos.

I know what you mean about the color fading over time on hemp. I think it's just the nature of it. My turquoise Inwood has faded just a bit from wearing it frequently in the sun, and so far I like it.

Okay, I have a dilemma and truly need you guy’s to help me out here.
Got my first Stetson 100 today. 7 1/2 size, but it fits, albeit a bit loose.
As you can see, and when I bought it I couldn’t because of terrible photos, that the sweatband has been taken off and horribly resewn back in. The hatband isn’t original.
The incredible, soft, malleable felt needs cleaning. And finally, it’s missing the all important 100 liner.
From the red and orange labels and starred sweat logo I’m estimating this one to be from the early 50s.
As an experienced man who could fix it up a bit and simply flip this hat back on eBay as is, or fully restore it, then flip it, or restore and keep it to wear often, but if I do that I’d end up having to either be careful not to sweat on the band because as you can see by the slight flaking, it’s suffering from dry rot, or replace the sweat with one of my personal logo’d sweats and then make a tab out of the 100 logo and attach it to the sweat.
It may help you help me if you know I got this 100 for $93 fees tax and shipping included.
The other option is to leave it as is and keep it for a collector item, but since it’s been highly toyed with and missing parts I don’t think I’ll entertain that idea.

In my humble opinion, its a perfect candidate for a keeper. sew in a nice quality sweatband and get a nice new satin liner. from my leather experience, once soft leather dries like that it will continue to deteriote. About the only option is to seal the surface with a top coating like Tan Kote or Resinol ( From tandy Leather) to seal the embossing in so it doesnt continue to flake off. Salvage the Stetson 100 embossings and affix to the new sweat and the center of the liner

Timmy did a nice logo salvage a while back and affixed it to the top of the new sweat ( the smaller "Stetson 100" would be a great one for that). The larger logo would look good attached to the center of a new liner. I did that to a nice old Knox a while back

You gotta think about how rarely nice affordable 100's show up.. My vote is to rebab it a bit and wear it proudly

It does seem like a great candidate for a keeper with a new sweat and liner. It would be a pity to keep a hat like that and not wear it.

I think you should do a full restoration and separately decide if you want to keep it or flip it. An early 50s 100 has to be one of the best quality hat bodies available and yours seems to be in great shape and worth the restoration time and material cost. In addition to keeping any 100 provenance you can, I recommend that you take good photos all along the restoration process. If you do end up flipping it, the restored hat itself along with the restoration photos should provide compelling story and help establish a high value.

Good luck!
