How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Hey All.

I’ve just ordered my first custom leather jacket from Carrie @ Thurston. I’m very excited. Going with the classic 30’s half-belt but depending on the length I might switch it up to the Planesman.

What do you all think about those two designs as a beginner/starter jacket?

If you want a longer jacket, go with the plainsman! It’s proportioned better. TB has the tendency of specing jackets like the 30’s HB a bit too long IMO. Don’t try and elongate the 30’s HB with a 26” back. It just doesn’t look right. There’s too much front drop for that back length, even if you are well over 6’.

Both great choices, versatile and easy to dress up or down.

I might have a Gibson & Barnes Nomex MA-1 coming, but that depends upon G&B. It is going to be the current NASA issued jacket supplied by G&B.

Both great choices. With a 30s HB as your first/only jacket you can’t go wrong.

I had to smile at you mentioning the Plainsman. A secret desire of mine for years now. You rarely see pictures in the wild, but then it’s always eye-candy (@Leither has one stunning example, and you can find some pictures from pre-COVID times).

What leather will you be getting?

I'd say at least 3.5 oz, typical of the popular chrome motochap leather, looks like it needs a break in too.

Lots of value in special ran used Schotts.

Here's another, had I found this before I wouldn't have gone with the Y2 version... Live and learn.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll note that when getting my fit jacket.

Who knows, the 30HB might work for me as I have a shorter torso. I’m 5’7” btw. I just preferred a little length in it than to be too short like say an older type 3 denim jacket.

I’ve been eyeing Dark Maple Bainbridge, Dark Hickory Vancouver, and Brown CXL FQHH.

I KNOW brown CXL HH works well for the HB (had a few myself) but have zero experience with the Thurston special leathers. Don’t think I have seen pictures of how they age too. so, this is gonna be an interesting choice here.

I'm new to the hobby. I ordered a Vanson Oxford in dark maple bainbridge in November. While I've been waiting I picked up a used Vanson model e and just ordered a five star in whiskey hh. I think I need to chill out a bit.

That Vanson Oxford is pretty sharp, especially in that particular leather you chose.

I was torn between the dark maple and the redwood. I think the dark maple is more versatile than the redwood so I went for it. I figured with it being my first really nice jacket l would want to have a more options when wearing it. But that redwood looks really slick.

Strongly considering an Aero Route 66 in natural CXL horse. Initially wanted a trail rider in same, but Holly said they'd been discontinued (a shame IMO, it's a great design), so I looked for an alternative and I actually like the Route 66 a lot more. It's very similar but definitely more versatile as it lacks the belt and the cut is more normal

The grain looks really nice. Is that the premium or the regular crystal?
