Today....is somewhat of a special day for me here on the Lounge. It was one year ago today that i joined this family and i wish to thank each and every member for all the kind words and for the brotherhood that has developed. I have enjoyed sharing with and in all the wonderful joys we share in our hats. And they are “our” hats! Thank you all.
So...today it’s the hat that started it all for me. My first fedora.

It was indeed H. Bowen’s work. We had a lot of people donating for the work and it was not cheap. My uncle is well into his 80s and I hope that the revolver will eventually find its way back to me.

I was the one who found the pre-27 for the conversion. I have a couple M28s that would have bee a fine donors but I got a steal on the pre-27 and the checkered top strap just pushed me that direction. I suggested at the time that they use a 38/44 but they wanted adjustable sights and the Outdoosman is just as expensive.

To be honest, I’m not nearly as interested in firearms as I once was, but they are great heirlooms and I love them as a canvas for artistry. I bet I’ve sold close to 30 of my firearms over the last 15 years. I don’t miss any of them, and I thought I really would. I will say that ***s caused a lot less clutter around my house compared to hats.

I’ve only seen the one pair of Fishpaw stocks in person. I didn’t know that Roy has passed: he made some incredible stocks and a true artist has been lost.

Be it Dobbs, Knox, Stetson, Churchill, etc. I don’t think a Fifty or a Hundred in my size will come my way. I also don’t think I’d pay what one would cost if it did come up. In my next life I’m coming back as a 6 7/8.

And thanks for being so civil after my ranting. I was taking a ride in my high horse last night and embarrassed myself.

Brent, not ranting at all in my view. Honestly.

Hamilton's work is expensive, but the best IMO. He worked on a Super Redhawk for me prior to my first fishing trip to Alaska.

I have been selling a bunch of my firearms over the last few years, too, and you are sure right about hats taking up more room.

Even my Harton 45 will eventually go to a nephew, or even my daughter, after John Taffin's Book of the 45 comes out (in which the revolver is included) and I can gift both the *** and book as a set... as I did with the 32 I gave to my daughter last year after the *** Digest book on Ruger Revolvers came out showing her little Vaquerito on a 2 page spread.

If I can get ***s and hats under 20 each that will be an accomplishment and maybe I can get retired at that point.... and move closer to Ecuador. I've been looking at TX, FL and NC... Lake Lure, NC, looks sweet. I know a guy there.

You and I share an interest in 44 Special, I see, although mine are all stock at this point. I sold my GP100 44 Spl for the S&W 69 in 44 mag; couldn't afford to keep both. But kept the Bisley Flattop in 44 Spl. Mine was "born" on my birthday, coincidentally, and is also included in Max Prasac's book on Ruger revolvers.

If a Dobbs, Knox or Frank Stack 50 hat came along like those @alanfgag posted I would have to jump on it, I'm afraid. Grail hat for me. But after we get our BSHW hats, it will be awhile before I can afford anything more...
