Post '30s belt-back jackets and suits

Picked this one up today and since it is too small I'll be posting it in the classifieds.

Interesting corduroy sportcoat with unusual pockets.

Ralph Lauren again? It's great! I love patch pocket but they are even better with (inverted box)pleats.

1960s. Lots of weird details on this one- the belt back, the cuff buttons, the cutaway, the double breasted closure, the extremely ****ed trousers. Deadstock, never hemmed, tags on.

H&M of all places. Surprisingly nice tweed and comfortable vintage-esque cut on it.

Maybe Beltbacks are having a small come back at the moment. Last week I saw one at "Scotch&Soda" a dutch brand trying hard to be like Ralph Lauren. It had a silly modern quilted vest sewn to the inside though. At "GANT" there was a corduroy beltback jacket even with action back. Both were far from perfect but at least the feature gets some

The problem I've seen from most modern belted backs (aside from Ralph Lauren) is that the belt is too low on the back. Rather than sitting at the waist it tends to sit upon the behind. Very uncomfortable and not attractive.

I've found that's the case with a lot of the Ralph Lauren belt back offerings, too. I guess with lower waisted styles in trousers and lower button stances, they've moved the belt backs down as well?
The H&M one could be higher, but the skirt of the jacket is pretty short, so while it looks low-ish, it's actually not bad when worn. Not perfect, but better than it looks.

I picked this one up a week ago.
Its a 70s does 30s belt back jacket in a nice medium weight wool

It does well but you can see the 70s seep out a little

I liked it though and dress it up 30s.
I sadly don't have an original and this will have to do for now

This is a great one. I see very little 70's "air" around it. It does a good job imitating the 30's.

Here's one I picked up today, labels have been removed but guessing it's a 70's job? size sadly is a 38" regular which is far too small for me but I had to save it from the rag man!

Here's a 3-piece I got last week. To my eye, the style is closer to the 1930s look than are most of the 60s/70s belt-backs. The trousers have an unfortunate flare below the knee, but they're not overly close-fitting through the seat and thighs, so they'll look OK after I have the tailor narrow the lower pant legs and cuff the hem.

I truly enjoy seeing all the great belt backs on this thread.. I hope I could add some for your viewing pleasure..

I believe the gray tweed is 30/40-? and I believe the others are 60/70..

The belt backs are getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price..

Anyway I look forward to your comments and opinions..

What thunderw21 said. The lapel shape, lack of a lapel buttonhole, presence (and size) of the vent, the type of lining, and pocket flaps are the big tells. The label, type of lining, placement of the ****** pocket, etc. are smaller clues.

But the differences are all pretty subtle, really. Have a tailor close the vent, pair it with the right things and it will probably look great. I never pass these '60s belt backs up when I run across them thrifting. They may not be the '30s ones, but most of the time they put interesting, and sometimes very nice twists on the style.

I thought the same thing until I came across this Cy Miller 60/70 belt back in a mustard color, It is ulgy, but I just couldn't pass it up.. LOL

This had to be a "disco" blazer...
