John B. Stetson started his company in 1865 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Biltmore Hats had been fiercely competing with Stetson; both firms produced excellent quality hats. In 1970, John B. Stetson Co. of Brockville, Ontario closed and all of the assets except the building were acquired by Biltmore Hats. However, in 1982, Stetson Hat Co. acquired Biltmore. In 1986, Stetson Hat Co. declared Chapter 2. And in December 1987, Guelph investors purchased Biltmore Assets from AJD Cap Company. This hat was part of T.T. Skov's Legion of Frontiersman uniform. He had been a member of "F" Squadron that served as an auxiliary police force for the City of Guelph during WWII.
